Are any Sikhs out

there looking for

a spouse in their

caste?

Then go to:
Sikh Matrimonials
Choose from 1000s of members
Of Your Caste!

I seriously saw this as a sponsored add on Google.

Also, good news. I ordered my camera off Amazon.com, it is on it's way. I don't know if anyone else thinks that blogs are more interesting with pictures. I think so in most cases, unless it is a story blog or a educational blog.

It's pretty unfortunate, that the term Sikh is often affiliated with caste. It is clearly stated that a Sikh should not aknowledgement the caste system. It would be interesting to look at when and how the caste system was reintroduced to the dominant Sikh culture/identity.

WesternSSA, I think it was discussed on your blog. About how the aunties are always asking "what are you?" possibly to match you with their daughter or something.

Yes, it was discussed on our blog. Every week we hold meetings at Western, do rehraas sahib than hold a discussion. One of our previous topics was the caste system and the general consensus was that almost all the students felt that the caste system was useless and irrelavent.

just a quick comment...5 k's should be worn regardless if anyone can see them or not, I think we should all agree on that? Secondly, the kachera...should never leave the body as non of your organs leave the body, the kachera and how it is worn can never be physically forced on anyone but the way it has been practiced for centuries should also not be overlooked because im sure some sikhs before our time period also pondered over the issue of having to bath in a kachera with one leg in and one leg out. kids wearing kachera is a different issue because they are in a learning stage and mistakes will be made naturally, but as adults one needs to recognize things in Sikhi are done without logic, logic is the enemy of intution and faith. as soon as one starts questioning things that the ancestors of sikhs did or start to make changes to them, then one has allowed western ideas to infect the sikhi way of life. Thats why as a westerner trying to learn sikhi, I find that punjabi amritdhari sikhs are best and only way to learn true spirit of sikhi that was born in the culture of punjab. sikhi is a universal message but without truly feeling humility and living humility we can not become true sikhs. Sikh way of life i have learned is universal and the traditions of living the sikhi way of life also apply to everyone who calls themselves a sikh. hopefully one day i will be able to do that myself.
